The City of Washington’s total receipts for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2018, had an increase of 42.8% from the previous year. According to the Auditor of the State’s audit for Washington, the significant increase is due “primarily to the issuance of notes which will be primarily used to pay the costs of improving streets, sidewalks, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water service lines, street lighting and traffic control devices, and for urban renewal projects, including the Wellness Park project.” The receipts included $3,567,815 of property tax. The disbursements for the year totaled just over $15 million, a 1.4% decrease. Those disbursements included $1.9 million for public safety, $1,174,811 for debt service, and $1,160,880 for public works. Disbursements for business type activities totaled $7,755,857.
