The Cascade Cougars swept the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams in a River Valley Conference doubleheader Friday in Wellman.

In a pair of games heard on KCII it was No. 8 Cascade topping No. 15 Mid-Prairie in the girls contest 50-27. The Cougars benefited from a big start opening the game on a 14-2 run that lasted the entire first quarter. They turned that into a 31-11 halftime lead. Mid-Prairie made a push in the third quarter with an 8-0 run to get the Cougar lead to 12 but could not get any closer down the stretch. Maddie Nonnenmann led the way with 11 points. Myah Lugar had 10. With the loss the Hawks are now 6-1 on the year.

In the boys contest, the Golden Hawks led most of the way but it was a late Cascade push that gave the Cougars a 53-40 win. Mid-Prairie found themselves up 11-7 after one quarter and 22-20 at the break. The Cougars turned up the half court defense in the second half, only allowing 18 points to the Hawks and finished the game on a 15-4 run to take the win. Ethan Trimpe led Mid-Prairie with 12 points. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 3-3 on the year.
