Tuesday night at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman the Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams host the rival Runnin’ Regals of Iowa City Regina.

The Mid-Prairie girls come into the contest undefeated on the young season at 3-0. Mid-Prairie was a winner Friday night at Tipton by a 52-46 with three players in double figures led by Maddie Nonnenmann with 13. On the season the Golden Hawks are led by Shae Becker scoring 15 points per game, seventh most in the River Valley Conference. She also leads the team with seven assists and has pulled in a team best 25 rebounds, ninth most in the RVC.

Regina comes into the game with a 1-1 overall record, beating Tipton to open the year before falling to Wilton 42-34 in their last game Friday. Against the Beavers, the Regals were led by Kennedy Wallace with 15 points. They are ranked No. 12 in class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Regals are led by Wallace scoring 13 points per game. She also has the team lead with eight assists. Elly Gahan leads the Regals on the glass with 16 boards.

Regina swept both games in this series a year ago, beating Mid-Prairie 71-60 in Wellman and 50-46 in Iowa City.

The Mid-Prairie boys are 1-1 on the year, dropping their season opener at Tipton Friday before rebounding to beat West Liberty Saturday 63-51. In their win over the Comets, three Golden Hawks ended up in double figures, led by Tom Butters with 18 points. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Cale Robertson at 15 points per game, sixth most in the River Valley Conference. Brad Tornow has the team lead and is second in the league with 12 assists. Tom Butters is best on the team and third in the RVC with 21 rebounds.

Iowa City Regina enters tonight’s game with an overall mark of 2-0 after beating Tipton and Wilton to start the season. The Regals are led by Masen Miller at 17 points per game, best in the River Valley Conference. He is also the team’s best rebounder with 16 boards, seventh in the RVC. Bryce Barnett is best for the Regals and eighth in the conference with six assists.

Regina swept the series between these two schools a year ago, winning 66-44 in Wellman and 67-42 in Iowa City.
