The Mid-Prairie boys basketball team got their first win of the young season Saturday, beating West Liberty 63-51.

The Hawks started the game hot, opening with an 8-2 run and they would not trail on the afternoon. Cale Robertson knocked down four three point goals in the first quarter to give the Hawks a 16-11 lead after the first eight minutes. Mid-Prairie led 37-22 at half. The Comets would get as close as eight in both the third and fourth quarters but the Golden Hawks answered the West Liberty runs with their own to put the game out of reach. Tom Butters led the Golden Hawks with 18 points, Robertson had 16 and Dominic Pickard 14. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 1-1 on the year and hosts Iowa City Regina Tuesday.
