One of three known structures built in Egyptian Revival style in Iowa can be found in Washington and it will soon be restored. The Woodlawn Cemetery shelter house and gates are on the National Register of Historic Places. At Tuesday’s Washington City Council meeting, a bid for the restoration work was approved unanimously. Mayor Jaron Rosien explained part of the project is funded by a grant, “It is historic and they applied for a grant … and they didn’t get it. And they made adjustments and applied again and did receive it, and now that is the work in front of us.” One bid was received. The work will be completed by Renoux Builders with $13,985.64 from the city. Work will include replacing the roof and repairing windows.
