The Highland girls basketball team used defense, rebounding and intensity to take a 51-25 girls Superconference win over IMS Friday in Riverside.

Trailing 3-2 early the Huskies turned things up and put together a 21-4 run the rest of the first half to take a 30-7 lead into the locker room. Highland would lead by as many as 27 in the second half. IMS made a push to start the fourth quarter, stringing together 10 straight but Highland countered with seven in a row of their own to put the game away. After the contest, Highland head coach Jodi Fink talked about his team’s play. “Abbie Miller and Aly Stokes do a great job, night in and night out scoring the ball and rebounding. Sarah Schneider tonight was the key. She scored 10 points and drew Yoder defensively and didn’t let her breathe. We communicated, we had that intensity, we got our offense going with our defense. It was a great job executing by the girls, I can’t say enough about them.”

Highland was led by a trio in double figures with Aly Stokes at 13 points, Abbie Miller with 12 and Sarah Schneider with 10. Suzanna Yoder had 15 to lead IMS. With the win, Highland enters Christmas break 9-2, IMS is at 5-6.
