The Highland and Columbus basketball teams squared off in a doubleheader in Columbus Junction Friday night, with both the girls’ and the boys’ games ending in Highland’s favor.

The girls’ game was first, with the Huskies taking the win 57-24.  It was a 23-10 game at halftime, but the Wildcats were shut out 13-0 in the third to further extend the Husky lead, which they would hold tightly for the rest of the game.  Highland’s Aly Stokes led all scorers with 21 points, just five shy of reaching her 1,000th point for her career.

The Husky boys also took a decisive victory in Columbus, with Highland downing the Wildcats 71-45.  Both of the Lasek boys had double-doubles for Highland, with Zach notching 21 points and 12 rebounds and Trey scoring 18 and dishing out 10 assists.

With the wins, the Highland girls’ and boys’ teams move to 7-2 and 6-1 on the season, respectively, and Columbus falls to 0-7 on the girls’ side and 1-5 on the boys’.  The next action for Columbus comes at Iowa Mennonite on Tuesday night in a doubleheader.  Highland’s teams each play on Monday, with the girls hosting English Valleys and the boys traveling to New London.
