For their final action before the Christmas holiday the Iowa Mennonite School and Highland boys and girls basketball teams will square off in Riverside Friday.

The IMS girls come into the game with an overall record of 5-5. Tuesday they beat Columbus 37-16. IMS is led by Suzanna Yoder scoring 28 points per game, most in the state in any class. Yoder also leads the team, Southeast Iowa Superconference and is eighth in class 1A with 42 assists. Yani Gutierrez leads IMS with 73 rebounds, sixth in the Superconference.

Highland stands at 8-2 on the year, winners of six in a row including a 47-35 win over English Valleys on Monday where Aly Stokes led the Huskies with 22 points and 13 rebounds. On the season Stokes paces the Huskies at 19 points per game, third in the Superconference. Her 129 boards leads the state in class 2A. Sarah Schneider is best on the team with 33 assists, sixth in the Superconference. These two teams met twice a season ago with the Huskies sweeping the series 57-33 in Kalona and 56-24 in Riverside.

The Iowa Mennonite boys enter play with an overall mark of 5-2, winners of three straight including a 70-33 win over Columbus last time out, led by 16 points from Eli Ours. On the season IMS is led by Ours at 13 points per game, 10th in the Superconference. Caleb Gingerich leads the team with 42 assists, third in the conference while Jeremy Niemeyer has pulled down a team best 53 rebounds, seventh in the Superconference.

Highland comes in with an overall record of 6-2, last time out they were beaten by top five New London 67-47, despite 12 points from Mason McFarland. On the year the Huskies are led by Trey Lasek at 15 points per game, fifth in the Superconference. He also leads the team and is second in the conference with 47 assists. Zack Lasek has pulled in a team best 88 rebounds, second in the Superconference. These two teams met three times a season ago with IMS sweeping all meetings 71-55 in Kalona, 68-55 in Riverside and 52-38 at Mount Pleasant in the second round of the playoffs.
