The Iowa Mennonite School boys and girls basketball teamshosted Wapello Tuesday night at Hillcrest Union in Kalona for a Southeast IowaSuperconference doubleheader.

The IMS girls let a late lead slip away for a47-43 loss. Wapello put together a 7-0 run in the first quarter and led 10-8after one period. In the second quarter IMS went on a 19-4 run and built theirlead to 10 at its largest. They were up 27-23 at half. IMS continued to leadinto the fourth quarter until Wapello used an 8-0 run to tie the game at 38with four minutes left. IMS responded with five straight but Wapello closed thegame on a 9-0 run in the final two plus minutes to nab the come-from-behindwin. Suzanna Yoder led IMS with 28 points, Mia Graber had 11. With the loss theIMS girls record falls to 3-5

In the boys contest, IMS scored a victory in a defensive battle, winning 37-28. After one quarter, IMS trailed 9-7 but held a 19-15 lead at the half. In the third quarter IMS stretched their lead with a 13-4 run that lasted the entire quarter. The hole proved too large for Wapello and IMS finished out the nine point win. After the victory, IMS head coach Dwight Gingerich talked about his team’s play and their third quarter.

Jeremy Niemeyer led IMS with 15 points. The IMS boys are now 3-2 on the season. The IMS boys and girls will be on the floor next on Friday when they travel to Winfield-Mt. Union for a doubleheader.
