Jefferson County led the way in Iowa with absentee ballots in November.

Of the total votes in the county 56.64% were absentee ballots in the midterm elections. Jefferson County Election Clerk Abby DeKleine said that she found with the state seeing record voter turnout Jefferson County followed suit. DeKleine added that the number of absentee voters who voted in person versus those who mailed in their ballot were about event, “I feel like it was pretty balanced. The people who vote in the office absentee and people who have them mailed, I feel like it’s always about the same number. As numbers grow each election that number usually stays roughly the same.” According to the Iowa Secretary of State’s office, Iowa as a whole set state midterm records in overall voter turnout with 1,334,279 Iowans casting ballots.
