Shoppers have one week left to get gifts purchased, wrapped, and under the tree ahead of Christmas. Main Street Washington Director Sarah Grunewaldt encourages people to shop locally, “It’s about 72 cents of every dollar goes back into the economy whether that is through taxes which pay for schools, and the police department, and the fire department, and city maintenance and things like that, or even just paying wages to employees that live here. Every employee that works in town may have kids in town who go to the local schools, or even if they don’t have kids, they’re still a member of this community who shop themselves within the town. It all kind of snowballs into a lot, a huge impact.” A variety of presents can be found in downtown Washington from jewelry and clothing to toys and home decor. The Washington Chamber of Commerce also offers Chamber Bucks which can be used at participating Chamber members’ storefronts.
