Over $1 million in housing improvements has been spent in Washington County by the East Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund. At a recent Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting Tracey Achenbach with the trust fund shared their annual ask for funding will be the same in the next fiscal year at $2,048. She said while reviewing her notes she discovered the $1 million mark has been surpassed this year, “The total amount that we’ve spent of Housing Trust Fund dollars since we started in 2011 in Washington County is $885,967. And then we also had an FHLB program, if you remember that’s our owner-occupy program that we try and help owners with minor repairs and rehabs to their house, and when you combine that you guys went over the $1 million mark of how much we spent in Washington County, which is quite a bit higher than the other counties. We have been fairly active in Washington County as far as assisting projects.”

The local share match is based off of each county’s population. The East Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund works to assist low to moderate income families maintain their homes. It serves Washington, Benton, Jones and Iowa Counties.
