The best movies of 2018 list published by the Washington Post names an Iowa documentary based in Washington County. The list includes the top-10 blockbusters like “Black Panther,” as well as a top 10 list of nonfiction films. The nonfiction category includes “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?,” “RBG,” and Iowa’s own “Saving Brinton.” The documentary features retired teacher and local historian Michael Zahs as he works to preserve and share some of the world’s oldest existing films. The old magic lantern slides and reeled films were once shown across the Midwest by Frank and Indiana Brinton in the late 1800s and early 1900s. “Saving Brinton” was created by filmmakers Tommy Haines, Andrew Sherburne, and John Richard.
