The Winfield-Mt. Union basketball teams squared off against Louisa-Muscatine last night, with the boys and the girls losing a couple of tightly-knit ballgames.

The girls’ game was decided by just one point, with the Falcons taking a 41-40 win.  Two Wolves reached double-figures, with Jobey Malone scoring 14 and Jenna Buffington picking up 12.  L-M’s Kylee Sanders gave them fits, nearly finishing with a triple-double with 17 points, 14 rebounds and eight steals.

The boys’ game was a thriller as well, with the Wolves losing in overtime 77-71.  Both teams were neck and neck from the start, with the score being just three points apart at halftime.  The teams would continue to battle it out until the end of regulation, all tied up at 63.  But the Falcons turned it on when it mattered most and outscored the Wolves 14-8 in the overtime period to take the win.  Christian Gerot posted a career-high 31 points for WMU in the loss.

The losses move the Wolves to 3-8 and 0-9 for the girls and boys, respectively.  They’ll be back in action on January 4th when they travel to Mediapolis for a doubleheader against the Bulldogs.
