Congressman Dave Loebsack sat down with a handful of Washington farmers.

Loebsack made three stops on his “Investing in Rural Iowa” tour on Friday. The third and final stop included a chat with local farmers at the Washington County Farm Bureau Office. Loebsack fielded questions regarding the recent trade agreements and where rural Iowa stood in the government shut down. One of his key points of emphasis was improving our country’s infastructre, which is being hindered by the shutdown, “I want to be a part of whatever big infrastructure package, if we get one done. There’s a lot of reasons why we have to reopen the government, but one of those is so we can focus on something else. I think we can walk and chew gum at the same time.”

Loebsack added that infrastructure was his top priority, stating he wants to improve not only roads and bridges but also locks and dams and adding rural broadband. Loebsack also devoted time to asking farmers what they thought of the tariffs and the government shut down.
