The Mid-Prairie basketball teams took to the court for a River Valley Conference doubleheader last night, with both teams taking down Durant in Tim Grady Gymnasium in thrilling fashion.

The girls game was  neck and neck the whole way through, with neither team led by more than seven points in the contest.  The Golden Hawks were down by four in the final minute and a half or so of play, but they stormed back to tie it up with about 30 seconds to go.

After having not scored for the whole game up to that point, Caitlyn Riggan was fouled and was sent to the line for a one-and-one.  She nailed her first, giving the Hawks the advantage.  She missed the second, but after the ball was batted around, Shae Becker came up with it and drained two more free throws to give the Hawks a 55-52 win.  Becker led the way with 22 points on the night, and Myah Lugar was lights out from three, going 5-7 from downtown.

The boys would follow that up with another doozy, beating the Wildcats 65-52.  Cale Robertson came out locked and loaded, scoring 14 points in the first quarter of play, 12 of which came from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats would keep it close for a lot of it, including late in the game, but three fourth quarter threes for Dominick Pickard would help to put the nail in the coffin.

Robertson led the way with 26 points after adding on to his first quarter totals, Pickard had 12 points from downtown and Tom Butters notched a double-double with 12 points and 19 rebounds.

The next action for the Golden Hawk basketball teams comes on Friday night in Wellman against West Liberty.
