Heavy snow fell across southeast Iowa Saturday, dumping nearly nine inches of snow in Washington. According to the National Weather Service, 9.7 inches was recorded in Ainsworth, Riverside had six inches, and Keota had six inches. Mt. Pleasant had about seven inches of snow and Iowa City observed just over five inches of powder.

According to the Washington County Communications Office, a snow plow pickup truck caught fire in Kalona at about 8:30 p.m. and was extinguished by the Kalona Fire Department. Between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. there were eight car wrecks, including a Department of Transportation truck being rearended in Washington.
