Iowa Mennonite and Lone Tree Meet in Area Rivalry

The Iowa Mennonite School boys and girls basketball teams travel to Lone Tree Tuesday to take on the arch rival Lions in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader.

The IMS girls come into the game with an overall record of 5-6. This will be their first game after the Christmas break. For the season, IMS is led by Suzanna Yoder scoring a state best 25.8 points in class 1A. Yoder also has the team lead and ranks 10th in class 1A with 50 assists. Yani Gutierrez is best on the team and seventh in the Superconference with 88 rebounds.

Lone Tree comes into the game with an overall record of 1-10. They were beaten Friday by Highland 59-44. On the season the Lions are led by Chloe Jacque scoring seven points per game. Ashley Musser has the team lead with 21 assists. Kasey Chown leads the Lady Lions on the glass with 74 rebounds, eighth in the Superconference. These two teams met in November with IMS taking a tight 58-55 win.

The Iowa Mennonite boys enter play with an overall record of 7-2. They were last in action Friday when they scored a come-from-behind win over Danville in Kalona 58-52 behind a career high 20 points for Kobe Borntrager. For the season IMS is led by Eli Ours at 14 points per game, ninth in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. Caleb Gingerich holds the team lead with 57 assists, second in the Superconference. Jeremy Niemeyer leads IMS on the boards with 66 rebounds seventh in the SEISC.

Lone Tree enters the matchup with an overall record of 3-6. Last time out they were beaten by Highland Friday 89-67, Keegan Edwards led the Lions in the loss with 20 points. Edwards lead the Lions for the year at 17 points per game, fourth in the Superconference. His 43 assists are also best on the team and fourth in the conference. He also paces the Lions with 73 rebounds, fifth in the SEISC. These two teams met twice a season ago with IMS sweeping both meetings.
