Kalona City Council Meeting on January 7th

An updated multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan has been approved by the Kalona City Council.

The plan identifies and ranks potential hazards to the residents of Washington County. According to City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh, having a hazard mitigation plan is essential to receive certain state and federal funding after a disaster. Schlabaugh added that having this plan has resulted in the city being reimbursed for damage caused by flash flooding in the past. Washington County first adopted the hazard mitigation plan in 2012.
