The City of Kalona is taking the next step towards their first major project of 2019.

The city council will be considering bids on February 9th to reconstruct C Avenue between 5th and 6th Street. The project will replace the sidewalks, improve underground infrastructure, and make the Kalona Public Library entrance ADA compliant. At Monday’s council meeting, City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh said he hopes to begin construction in March. Schlabaugh says he had hoped to get this done last year but the city couldn’t quite get to it, “The initial thought was to have that kind of coincide with the community center construction and just do it all at once. Just due to some timing and the bid climate we’re pushing that off to the beginning of 2019.” Schlabaugh estimates the project will take 60 days to complete with a cost between $200,000 and $220,000.
