Kalona City Officials are working on clearing the streets of snow, and it’s important residents do their part.

Kalona City Ordinance states, “no person shall park, abandon or leave unattended any vehicle on any public street, alley, or city-owned off-street parking area during snow removal operations.” Failing to do so can lead to fines or the city impounding your vehicle. When it comes to private snow removal, the responsibility falls on the owner. If property owners fail to clear sidewalks in a timely manner the city may do so, assessing the costs against the property. When clearing snow from driveways or walks, it is unlawful to place any snow on a street or alley as this may cause a driving hazard. It is also against the ordinance to cover a fire hydrant with snow.
