The coffee shop construction in the Mid-Prairie High School Library is now complete.

The library has been receiving upgrades since last summer, including new flooring and furniture. The final leg of the project is to have a full service coffee shop operated by special education students. According to Special Education Teacher Traci Zahradnek, the construction was completed over the holiday break. Zahradnek says this week they’ve been training the students on the equipment and even served some of the staff coffee.

Superintendent Mark Schneider says this will be a great asset for these students, “The whole purpose is for our students with special needs, to give them more job skills and more employment skills. We can serve those students after their class graduates from the high school and so they will be able to come back and help run this coffee shop.” Special Education Director Amy Shalla says they should be open for business in the next two weeks. The library renovation was funded in part by a $95,188 Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant.
