The Iowa Mennonite School boys and girls basketball teams were beaten on their home floor by the Pekin Panthers Thursday night.

In the girls game, Pekin completed a season sweep of IMS by posting a 63-47 win. Midway through the first quarter the Panthers put together a 13-2 run to expand their 4-2 lead and they would not be threatened the rest of the night. Pekin was on top 38-18 at the half and led by as many 28 at one point in the second half. Suzanna Yoder led IMS with 29 points, Yani Gutierrez added 10, with the loss IMS is now 7-8 on the season.

The Iowa Mennonite boys mounted a valiant comeback before falling in overtime to the Panthers 55-48. Pekin controlled the first half, taking a nine point lead into the break at 31-22. The Panthers started the second half on an 8-0 run to push their advantage to 17. From there, IMS began to climb back in, cutting the Panther lead down to eight going to the fourth quarter. In the final period, IMS took a brief one point lead with under a minute left at 46-45 but Pekin found an answer at the free throw line. Each team had a chance to win the game with the contest tied at 48 but could not convert, sending the tilt to overtime. In the extra frame, Pekin took control outscoring IMS 7-0 to take the win. Eli Ours led IMS with 16 points. With the loss, Iowa Mennonite falls to 8-5 on the year.
