Snow accumulations of four to eight inches are expected in the KCII-listening area this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, drifting snow is likely with some blowing snow possible. Also, travel could be very difficult due to the blowing snow reducing visibility. With such a winter storm, Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen advises residents to limit time outside, especially when cleaning snow, “If you have to, set a timer. You’re going to go out and shovel for half an hour and then go back inside, warm up. Just make sure that you’re taking plenty of breaks because one of the things with frostbite is a lot of times you don’t notice because it’s just cold so you’re kind of numb. And you might get to the point where you’re too numb and you’ve got frostbite, and it could progress to hypothermia if you keep staying outside.” Following the snow, arctic air is expected to bring below normal temperatures to the Midwest.
