What has become a tradition in Columbus Junction, the 12th Annual St. David’s Day Parade will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m.

This celebration of Welsh culture was started by Troy Pugh. After taking a trip to Wales with his family several years ago, Pugh tells KCII he wanted to find a way to recognize not just his heritage, but that of so many others in southeast Iowa. “The previous few years they were having a little St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Columbus Junction. We thought, ya know, if the Irish people can do it, with all the population of Welsh people in the area we oughta do something for the Welsh.”

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday in front of MUGZ on Main Street. More than 150 expected participants dressed in red, or with daffodil decorations, will then make their way to the American Legion, where all can enjoy some Welsh foods. The St. David’s Day Parade has been held in Columbus Junction since 2013.
