Soon Washington and Keokuk Counties will no longer share an assistant county attorney. At Wednesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting, Washington County Attorney John Gish stated that Keokuk County would like to end the sharing agreement. Last month, Gish explained that the current assistant county attorney was elected to be the Jefferson County Attorney and there would be changes to the shared position before it expires in June. For the next six months an assistant was going to be shared, with one day in Keokuk County each week. However, Gish said Keokuk County wanted more time and has found another partner. The 28E agreement was set to end in June, but will come to a close soon. No official action was taken and the cessation of the 28E will be placed on an agenda for a future meeting.
