Funds have been raised for a new K9 officer for the Washington Police Department. The total cost for the dog, training, and a kennel is $18,396, and the department has raised over $21,000 through donations. At Tuesday’s Washington City Council meeting Police Chief Greg Goodman explained the new dog will come from the same kennel and training program as their current K9 unit, “It’s just a very, very good, extensive program.” Training for Officer Seth Adam and the K9 will take six weeks in Denver, Indiana. The dog will likely be a Belgian Malinois. Current K9 Ultro and Officer Brett Sorrells will be retiring this year. The Washington City Council unanimously approved the funding for the new K9. Additional funds in the K9 account will be used for future costs associated with the program. The dog will be picked up in May.
