The 4-H program Clover Kids is celebrating its 20th birthday this year.

Nearly one in every 10 of Iowa’s 4-H’ers are Clover Kids members. Washington County 4-H Youth Coordinator Amy Green talks about Clover Kids, “It’s a program for kindergarten through third grade youth, noncompetitive. It’s just kind of a place for them to socialize, make new friends, get connected. When they get together they might do experiments and science, they might cook, they might go on field trips, they might do art projects. It’s just a place for them to do hands on learning, experience new things, meet new people.”

There are seven different Clover Kids groups in Washington County, with a total of 118 kids. Green talks about the enthusiasm for the program, “We have a couple of the clubs who meet at the extension office and on those evenings the kids are just sprinting into the building. They’re always excited to see each other, excited to do whatever that night is going to include for them. So I love seeing that energy and passion, and I think that applies in all of the clubs across the county.” Those who wish to become a member of Clover Kids or volunteer can contact the Washington County Extension Office.
