Washington County’s 911 surcharge is on the ballot this November. County 911 Supervisor Cara Sorrells says the surcharge, which is not increasing, is the “only source of funding for E911 Communications” and is “critical to keeping Washington County 9-1-1 operational.” Sorrel says Washington County 9-1-1 is preparing to meet narrow banding federal mandates which includes the upgrade of communications pagers and equipment for Fire and EMS, and the failure to pass the proposed monthly $1.50 continuation will decrease funding need for this and other upgrades, as well as maintenance costs. Iowans can now vote for November’s midterm elections at their county auditor’s office or apply for an absentee ballot online.  The Washington County Auditor’s Office is open from 8 am to 4:30 pm during the week and can be reached by calling 653.7777.
