Around 10:40 Wednesday night, the Washington County Safety Center received a report of a fire at an apartment building on North 2nd Avenue in Washington.  Upon responding to the scene, the Washington Fire Department put out the fire in the attic at 220 North 2nd Avenue.

Others responding to the scene were the Washington Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Ambulance and Alliant Energy.

No injuries were reported and the Red Cross was contacted to help with the five families displaced.
