The first results from the Every Students Succeeds Act are in and school districts from Washington County are meeting expectations.

The ESSA was put in affect to replace the No Child Left Behind Act. Each school is given a rating from 1 to 100 in 11 categories that factor in graduation rates and growth in math and reading. All schools from the Mid-Prairie School District and the Highland School District received a “Met” status, which means they are meeting standards and are not in dire need for improvement. The highlight for Highland is, Highland Middle School earned a score of 59 on the reading growth category, which is nine points higher than the state average. Mid-Prairie Middle School received a 66 on their learning conditions composite, which is the section where students rate the learning environment at the school. That 66 is 19 points higher than the state average of 47. This score was helped by a rating of 83.5 out of 100 in adult-student relationships.
