A $17,500 change order was needed for demolition work at the former Linda Lou’s Diner in Washington. At the recent council meeting, City Administrator Brent Hinson explained the asbestos abatement process has been more work than anticipated, “I think it was carpeting, then tile, then plywood, then below that plywood was this asbestos-cement-containing poured in place flooring, which is what’s costing us money, and then there was another layer of plywood below that. So it’s just like a bizarre thing. You know, our asbestos guy with Environet, David, he said he’s been doing this for eight or nine years and this is the oddest thing he’s seen.” The City Council approved the change order.
