A walk to raise Autism awareness in Washington is being held in April, which is National Autism Awareness Month. The Centers for Disease Control describes autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as a “developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges.” Cole Davies, who works with local individuals with an ASD is helping to organize the local walk. He says they’re holding the event to raise awareness of what autism is, “There are so many individuals in the Washington community that are afflicted with autism, and not very many other community members know what autism is.”

According to a 2016 report from the Iowa Autism Council, the CDC estimates 1 in 45 children, ages 3-17, have an ASD.

The walk is $5 for each participant and you can register at the event. The walk will be held April 8th 3-5 p.m. in Sunset Park.
