To kick off the new academic year, many area schools are holding back-to-school and orientation events for students and their families. 

WACO leads the way with events today from 3:30-6 p.m. Seventh-grade students can get their schedules, explore the Junior/Senior High School, and meet their teachers from 4:30-5:30 p.m. At 5:30, an all parent and student meeting will be held in the gym to introduce a number of school procedures and expectations. During this time, returning students can complete any tasks needed to get ready for the school year. WACO Elementary students can attend their back-to-school night on Monday, August 21 from 4:20-5:30 p.m. 

Winfield-Mt. Union is hosting their Open House Backpack Night on Monday as well. From 4:30-6 p.m. families can drop off supplies, students can meet their teachers, and all guests can tour the building. Additionally, the Big Red Pride Booster Club will hold a carnival and activities by the football field from 5-6:45 p.m. Following the carnival, Winfield’s fall athletes are offering a meet-the-players session at 7 p.m. on the football field. 

Sigourney and Keota will hold their events on Tuesday, August 22. In Sigourney, the Elementary Open House runs from 5-6 p.m., seventh-grade orientation begins at 5:30, and orientation for the Career Academy is at 6. Seventh-grade and new student orientation for Keota students begins at 5 p.m. in the High School auditorium. Keota Elementary’s back-to-school event is from 5:30-6:30 p.m. 

Parents and guardians are asked to have their students registered prior to attending these events. All school districts in the KCII listening area begin classes on Wednesday August 23.
