It was a tough night at the office for the Keota Eagle boys and girls basketball teams Tuesday when hosted the English Valleys Bears in a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader. The boys contest took an extra frame, but the Bears outlasted the Eagles for a 64-62 win. EV led 18-12 after one quarter and Keota erased that with a 16 point second period to take a two point lead into half. The Eagles then built a six point advantage going to the fourth at 46-40, only to see the Bears put up 17 in the fourth and force extra basketball and steal a two point win on the road, on a buzzer beater tip from Kaden Hall. Keota shot 50% from the floor, but was just two of 11 from long range and 18 of 28 at the charity stripe. Four Eagles got to double figures on a balanced night with sophomore Evan Vittetoe putting up 15, Cole Kindred 14, Colten Clarahan 13 and Dalton Dodd 12. The loss drops Keota below .500 at 9-10, English Valleys improves to 11-8.

The Bears led the girls game start to finish in a 57-30 victory. EV was on top 13-6 after one and 24-12 at half. They continued to pull away methodically in the second half, winning the second 16 minutes 33-18 including a 20-11 close to the game in the fourth quarter. With the loss, Keota is now 6-14 on the year, English Valleys improves to 18-2. The loss wraps up the regular season for the Eagle girls, the Keota boys are off until Monday when they host Highland.
