William Blum†«ˆY†ª^‹¯e:Ԙ’oS

The late Bill Blum was represented by his wife Mickey at the Washington County Fair as the couple was recognized as Washington County’s 2022 4-H Hall of Fame recipient.

As the Rabbit Superintendent for the Washington County Fair Bill Blum helped grow the Washington County rabbit program by substantially increasing the number of participants, upgrading the rabbit facilities, and aligning the show with the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) standards.

Mickey meanwhile, kept things going home by taking care of the rabbit chores and helping their own 4-Hers prepare their projects for the fair. The couple would spend many weekends together working with the rabbits as a family with their daughters. Amy Green, the Washington County 4-H & Youth Coordinator, talked with KCII about the privilege of recognizing the Blum’s contributions.

“Bill and Mickey as a team got their whole family into rabbits, with hundreds of rabbits at a time, and their girls also showed rabbits. Bill stepped into being a volunteer for 4-H because there was a need, and he performed at full force, helping advance the classes, evaluations, and facilities, as well as making improvements to the department from top to bottom. It was a great honor to recognize them for all they have done for our program.”

The Blum’s will now be recognized at the Iowa State Fair as part of the 2022 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Ceremony, which will be on August 21st at the 4-H Exhibits Building.
