Trying to snatch sole possession of first place in the SEISC-North Division was the mission for the Highland baseball team last night, but second place Mediapolis tied up the standings with a 2-1 victory at home.

Highland held a 1-0 advantage for most of the game until a two run Bulldog sixth spelled doom for the road Huskies. Chase Schultz gave his team a chance on the mound tossing six innings of two run ball (one earned) giving up four hits, two walks, and striking out seven. The offense had just two hits with singles from Brenton Bonebrake and Logan Bonebrake. Both squads are now 9-2 in league play with Highland having a 11-5 overall mark and Mediapolis at 13-6.

The softball team stayed one game back of the conference lead with a 4-0 extra inning win over the Bulldogs (1-17, 1-12). The pitcher’s duel was scoreless until the top of the eighth when the Huskies crossed the plate four times headlined by RBI at-bats from Sarah Burton, Abbi Stransky, and Grace Batcheller. The team finished with eight knocks led by Mackinze Hora going 2-for-4. Batcheller was sensational on the rubber twirling all eight frames giving up just two hits, no walks, and striking out 16. Highland is 9-2 in the division and 15-4 overall.
