A calf will be auctioned off Thursday in Kalona with proceeds benefiting Kansas wildfire relief efforts. Carol Horning says the black Angus steer weighs 550 pounds and was donated by Tyler Vavricek of Center Point and Jason Kane of Deep River. The Kalona Sale Barn is having the special “roll over” calf sale at 1 p.m. Thursday. All of the proceeds will be used to provide fencing materials to wildfire victims in Kansas. Horning and Megan Coakley have been organizing volunteer efforts and donations of supplies since mid-March for farmers and ranchers in Kansas.
