The Louisa County Historical Society is hosting Civil War Saturday at the Louisa County Heritage Center from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Visitors will get to learn about many aspects of life during the Civil War era, from women’s fashion to the medicine soldiers used. Louisa County Historical Society President Norma McCormac mentions a new addition to this year’s event, “This year we have something very, very special;. Kenneth McChesney and Warren Ball are going to be [given] quilts of valor. They will be presented their quilts and it’s just going to be so nice.” McChesney and Ball are two Wapello veterans that will be given the quilts from the Southeast Iowa Civil War Roundtable. The roundtable will be setting up camp outside the heritage center at 10 a.m.

A freewill offering lunch will be served and the afternoon will feature educational programs inside the stage room at the heritage center. Civil War artifacts and photos will be on display, as well as shooting demonstrations.
