A hearing regarding the Goncho Apartment building was held this week. According to Steve Donnolly, building and zoning official for the City of Washington, the owner of the building, Elmer Miller of JARS Enterprises, LLC, has entered into an agreement to mitigate the issues. The signed agreement is with CTS Cleaners of Grimes and work should be done this week. Also, City Attorney Kevin Olson filed a continuance with the court to allow more time for mitigation since a contract is signed and half of the cost has been paid as of date. Following the mitigation the property will be retested and the results will have to be deemed safe before occupancy.

The building was found dangerous by a city appeals panel in March as five apartments and common areas tested positive for methamphetamine. In December of 2012, a meth lab was found in the apartment building.
