The Columbus Wildcat baseball team is ready for another season on the diamond. During the 2017-18 campaign, the Wildcats finished with an overall record of 3-17, 2-14 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. The Wildcats got their wins with a season sweep of Winfield Mt. Union and a victory over Danville.

Columbus hit .245 as a team during the year, led by Abel Mena and his .409 average, ninth best in the Superconference North division. His .500 on base percentage also led the team and was seventh in the Superconference. Evan Rees is the leading returner for the Wildcats at the plate, coming back with a .306 average from the last Wildcat season, including 15 hits, nine runs scored and nine RBI.

On the hill, Columbus finished with a 10.26 team ERA. Tommy Pretz was the Wildcat ace with a 3-3 record and 3.68 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 26 and two thirds innings of work. Rees is also the leading returner on the hill for the Wildcats. In his last season with the club he posted an 0-5 record across 37 and two thirds innings of work with an 8.73ERA.

Columbus opens the season on June 15th when they host Lone Tree.
