The Columbus Wildcat track and field continued their strong season Thursday, as they took second in the girls’ team scoring at the Central City Co-Ed meet and were the winners in the boys’ team competition by a whopping 133 points, posting a team score of 231.

The Columbus boys dominated, picking up 13 total individual or team wins. Junior Kaden Amigon had three of them, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.1 seconds; taking the 200 meters in 22.32 seconds; and winning the long jump with a top leap of 20-and-a-half feet. Senior Triston Miller was best in the high jump, clearing six feet two inches, and winning the 110-meter hurdles in just under 15 seconds. The Wildcats had a pair of distance-race winners in junior Damian Vergara, who won the 1,600 meters in five minutes two seconds, and freshman Lauro Avendano-Santiago, who won the 3,200 in 15 minutes five seconds.

Sophomore Bryce Grimm took the discus with a top toss of 126 feet even, while the ‘Cats also won the four-by-100 (43.05), 4-by-400 (3:59) and 4-by-800 (9:02) relays. Columbus also took the distance medley in 4:10 and won the shuttle hurdles relay in 1:10.

Along with being second in the 4-by-200 relay and sprint medley, Columbus also got runner-up finishes from junior Tim Hills-Carrier in the high jump; junior Daniel Martinez in the 3,200; freshman Alexander Rees in the 400-meter hurdles; junior Russell Coil in the discus toss; and senior Jeff Hoback in the 100 and 200.

Third-place finishes for the Wildcats came from Vergara in the 200; Rees in the 110 hurdles; Coil in the shot put; senior Dante Zuniga in the 400 hurdles; and junior Cael Phillips in the 800. Hill-Carrier and sophomore Juan Chairez were fourth in the 800 and 200, respectively.

The Columbus girls were led by seven wins. Three of them came from Audrey Hoback. The freshman won the 400 hurdles in 1:24 and took both throwing events, taking the discus toss at 82’11” and the shot put at 29’2″. Sophomore Ariana Vergara was champion of the 800 in 2:44 and the 1,500 in 6:04, while freshman Naveiah Garza claimed the 400 in 1:11 and cleared four-and-a-half feet to also claim the high jump.

Runners-up for the Wildcats were freshman Emily Miranda in the 200; sophomore Isabel Rendon in the 1,500; and sophomore Lily Coil in the 100 hurdles and discus; Bronze medalists were Miranda in the 100 and senior Averi Sipes in the 1,500, while fourth-place finishers included Hoback in the 100 hurdles; Garza in the 800; sophomore Claire Humphreys in the 200; and junior Kimberly Gonzalez in the 1,500. Columbus will return to the track Thursday at the Pankoke Relays at Winfield-Mount Union.
