Now that the Friends of Bunker Mill Bridge board has dissolved, committees that will deal with the restoration are beginning to take shape. Some of those who attended Tuesday’s meeting in Kalona volunteered to be members of the committees, and local citizens are still welcome to join.

One of the  committees is tasked with researching and selecting the appropriate non-profit that will eventually take ownership of the bridge. The next committee is going to handle organizing the rest of the restoration. Another committee is responsible for gathering donations, planning fundraisers and applying for grants. The final committee’s focus is planning a public park and canoe access that will be located next to the bridge.

Those who volunteered will serve as the Friends group’s advisory committee.
