The President of the Mid-Prairie School Board attended the 68th Annual Convention of the Iowa Association of School Boards in Des Moines last week. Jim Hussey says he’s been attending it since he became a school board member 15 years ago.

He says the focal point of the two day event is the delegate assembly, where the state’s school board members set priorities for the next legislative session. Although there was some resistance, he stressed the importance of moving forward with Iowa Core, an effort to make the curriculum for reading, writing, and math more rigorous. He says the Iowa Core is similar to Common Core, which is being implemented across the United States.
