A construction observation and materials testing agreement with Terracon was approved by the Washington County Board of Supervisors this week. Matt Miller with Carl A. Nelson said with the FEMA-rated structure that is the new emergency communications and emergency operations center this is required. Miller added that the county engineer’s office will be able to help save money on the project, “I would point out that we worked with the engineer’s office, and Jacob (Thorius – County Engineer) has offered to do some of the observation and work with Terracon, which is a pretty unique opportunity to save the county a little bit of money. Instead of having Terracon drive down every day, Jacob might be able to take some of that pressure off, so that’s a great opportunity for the county.” Terracon is based in Cedar Rapids.

Miller added that the rates for service are on an hourly schedule, but Terracon estimates the scope of services at almost $29,000. The supervisors approved the agreement unanimously.
