Legislators in Washington D.C. have yet to pass the Farm Bill, which includes funding for SNAP, the supplemental nutrition assistance program. Washington County Public Health Director Danielle Pettit-Majewski states that they are hoping for progress by mid-January. She states that if nothing is passed, the 1949 permanent laws will go into effect which would cause the price of milk to nearly double. The Senate has proposed a $4 billion cut and the House has proposed a $40 billion cut. Pettit-Majewski says that either way cuts to the program will be seen.
