The City of Wellman has issued a drinking water warning for all residents.  City Administrator of Wellman Dave Ross says their monthly tests showed high nitrite levels.  Ross says this is something that has been happening on and off for the past two years.  But they are taking proactive steps to insure people’s safety permanently with the installation of a city-wide reverse osmosis water treatment system.  He says for now they are flushing hydrants and increasing chlorine residuals to combat the nitrite levels.  Ross says you should not boil your water since it doesn’t get rid of nitrite. He says you should not give the water to infants 6 months or younger, instead he suggests giving them bottled water.  Ross says the drinking water warning will be in affect for the next month.  If you have any questions you can call the city hall at 319-646-2154.
