The Washington area is receiving funds for economic development.  Senator Tom Harkin has announced that the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) is receiving funding from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration.

Chad Sands, Community Development Department Director with ECICOG says the funding will be used to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy in the region and a long range regional transportation plan with the ECICOG region.

ECICOG is receiving $62,000 and their region is made up of the counties of Bention, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington.
