The youngest members of Washington Demon archery achieved high marks in their latest shoot. The Washington high school, middle school, and Lincoln Elementary school archery teams competed in the Solon Spartan Archery Shoot Saturday at Solon High School.

The highlight of the event came from the Lincoln Elementary team, placing first in the shoot with a score of 2,730 including 49 bulleyes. Fifth grader Allison Rees posted back-to-back first place finishes in the individual elementary field, posting a 259 out of a possible 300 points including eight bulleyes. Fifth grader Curtis Stender scored a 267 out of a possible 300 points, including eight bulleyes. Both Rees and Stender finished among the top 40 archers in their classification, regardless of age.

The middle school archers scored 3,033 points, including 83 bulleyes, placing them third among the six team field. Eighth grader Samantha Mellinger had the junior-high’s best score, posting a 276 with 12 bulleyes. Sixth grader Lane Frana scored a 267 with 10 bulleyes for the top male score.

The high school squad finished in fifth place out of the eight team division, scoring 3,186 with 105 bulleyes. Junior John Sands had the best overall performance for Washington, shooting a 284 with 18 bulleyes. Senior Jade Wells came away with a score of 278 with 13 bulleyes. Both Sands and Wells place among the top 10 in their respective classification.

The archery teams will host a shoot Sunday afternoon at Washington High School. Archers from Center Point-Urbana, Solon and Fairfield Community Schools are among the expected participants. First flights are set for 1 p.m.
