Governor Terry Branstad has declared next week as Emergency Medical Services Week.  This week provides an opportunity to honor the vital essential public health function of EMS, which provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine’s “front line safety net.”  Washington County Ambulance Director Richard Young says each community does different things to make the public aware of there services.

He says they attend events like the upcoming Kids’ Fest to help the public with infant car seat and bicycle helmet checks.  Young adds they also teach CPR and First Aid classes to the public as well.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, there are more than 12,000 certified EMS providers in the state and with 100 of those in Washington County.  For more information about the various EMS services in Iowa, follow the link here.
